Filmfare 2024

Filmfare 2024: Amid a celebrated spectacle of wit and wins, the Friday-night beauty and beast took home the trophies — Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt — the stars of the 69th edition of Filmfare Awards. Lights, camera, action. These were the moments of triumph for two on-screen icons at Gujarat, at the biggest celebration of Bollywood. That night, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt won the best actor of the year honours for their opposing-gender performances in separate films: for Animal (2023) and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), respectively. Ranbir Kapoor, with his trademark dimples and hunky machismo, won his sixth Filmfare trophy for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) award. As for Alia Bhatt, the style icon, the superstar achieved her sixth Filmfare Award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female), besting four other nominated actresses.

Yet another leading dispenser of benedictions awarded to those felicitously in the radar of or below the line was the Best Director trophy that made its way back to India, to the legendary Vidhu Vinod Chopra, for his sheer mastery of cinematography in the biographical drama 12th Fail – a year of travails and trons – a magnificent excursion into the life of a persona and a people in time.

The night honoured its temperament and saw to it that a template of triumph they did not write and produced made history by being a sweeping winner of Best Film of the year. It edged out Animal, Atlee Kumar’s Jawan, Amit Rai’s OMG 2, Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
